Family Assistant / Nanny-Household Manager – Part-Time

Location: Darien, Connecticut Schedule: Part-Time | Live-Out

A warm and active family is seeking a reliable, organized, and flexible Family Assistant / Nanny-Household Manager to help support their busy household and two independent school-aged daughters (ages 12 and 9). This hybrid role blends childcare, household support, and light pet care to help the home run smoothly during busy weekdays.

The family of five also includes their friendly English Yellow Lab (5½ years old). Dad commutes to NYC Monday through Thursday, and Mom works a rotating schedule that sometimes includes weekends, so the family would ideally love a candidate who is flexible and comfortable assisting both mornings and afternoons when needed.

Their daughters are responsible and fairly independent, so the focus of this role is guidance, support, and organization rather than hands-on childcare. The ideal candidate is someone who truly enjoys helping a household run smoothly—ensuring the girls stay on track with their routines, meals are prepared, and the home remains organized—so the parents can focus on meaningful family time together in the evenings.

Schedule

Primary Afternoon Schedule: Monday – Thursday 1:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Potential Morning Coverage (Flexible): Approximately 2 mornings per week 6:15 AM – 9:15 AM or 10:15 AM

The family understands the importance of reliable hours and is happy to guarantee the afternoon schedule, with mornings offered as additional flexible coverage if available.

Responsibilities

Childcare Support

• Ensure children stay on track with daily routines
• School pickups and driving to activities
• Prepare healthy snacks and simple dinners
• Encourage homework completion and organization
• Supervise afternoon activities and downtime

Household Management

• Keep the home tidy and organized
• Light housekeeping and laundry
• Meal planning and grocery shopping
• Kitchen cleanup after meals
• Organizational projects (closets, toys, pantry)
• Household errands and trash/recycling

Morning Routine Support (if scheduled)

• Ensure children wake up on time
• Prepare breakfast
• Help with school readiness (teeth, backpacks, clothing)
• Ensure timely school drop-off

Pet Care

• Feed and walk the family dog 
• Occasional pet-related errands or appointments

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is warm, proactive, organized, and dependable, someone who enjoys supporting older children while also helping maintain a well-run home.

Qualifications include:

• Experience with school-aged children
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle required
• Comfortable driving children to activities
• Strong organizational skills
• Comfortable assisting with light cooking and household support
• Pet friendly
• Flexible and positive attitude

Nice to Have (but not required):

• Tutoring or teaching experience
• Bilingual abilities
• Experience assisting with homework for 3rd or 6th grade level
