Ben Taub Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center) and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (Level 3 Trauma Center) anchor Harris Health’s network of clinics, health centers, and on-site services. Harris Health is among an elite list of health systems achieving Magnet nursing excellence designation and other quality designations. Job Summary Work in a challenging but rewarding environment with like-minded, mission-oriented team members. The candidate needs to possess strong clinical and communication skills, and be highly accountable. This person provides high quality care for individuals housed in the Harris County Jail. Performs intake health assessments, manages urgent care issues, identifies and treats chronic care illnesses, and collaborates with advanced practice practitioners. Works in conjunction with Harris County Sheriff Office deputies and with nursing staff, radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, and laboratory services. May require communication with the Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals if patients require a higher level of care. Ensure organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Responsibilities Perform intake health assessments and manage urgent care issues for incarcerated individuals. Identify and treat chronic illnesses; provide high quality medical care in a correctional health setting. Collaborate with advanced practice practitioners, nursing staff, and on-site services (radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, laboratory). Coordinate with the Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals when higher levels of care are required. Work in conjunction with Harris County Sheriff Office deputies and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Qualifications Degrees : Doctor of Medicine – Board Certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine; must maintain board certification. Must become board certified before board eligibility runs out. Credentialing criteria as set by the Medical Executive Committee. Licensure : Texas Medical Board – MD or DO; valid Texas license to practice medicine and be registered as a physician in Texas. DEA License : DEA license must remain active throughout employment. Work Experience : Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3-year or 4-year residency program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. Communication Skills : Above average verbal communication (heavy public contact); exceptional verbal (public speaking); writing and reports. Proficiencies : Computer skills; suturing; splinting; EKG interpretation. Knowledge/Abilities : Analytical abilities; mathematics; medical terminology knowledge; research knowledge and abilities. Work Schedule Flexible schedule Holidays as required Reports To Medical Director Employees Supervised No Supervisory Responsibilities Other Special Requirements Request for leave must be submitted sixty (60) days in advance for approval to enable schedule arrangements. CME consists of five business days per year. Notice must be given sixty (60) days in advance to arrange coverage for services.
