Manufacturing Design Engineer (FreeCAD)

Design and validate production-ready mechanical components and assemblies while contributing real-world engineering expertise to the training of next-generation AI systems. This remote contract role centers on precise parametric CAD work, manufacturing documentation, and design-for-manufacturing practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and modify detailed parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable software.
• Develop comprehensive engineering drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups, for manufacturing handoff.
• Design for sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, plastics, and injection molding.
• Conduct CAD validation and quality assurance reviews to confirm model accuracy and production readiness.
• Prepare clear technical documentation and assembly instructions for use as AI model training references.
• Incorporate technical reviewer feedback to improve CAD models and supporting documentation.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing environments.
• Advanced proficiency with FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD software for modeling, assemblies, and drawing generation.
• Experience with parametric CAD modeling, mechanical design, 3D CAD modeling, assembly design, engineering drawings, CAD validation, quality assurance, and technical documentation.
• Hands-on knowledge of sheet metal, CNC, plastics, and injection molding design considerations.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturing best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to produce production-grade CAD models and assess them against real-world manufacturability criteria.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and collaborative technical work.

Work Terms

• Remote contract engagement.
• No prior AI experience is required. Relevant manufacturing design expertise is the primary qualification.

Compensation

• $40 to $100 per hour.
