As a Patient Transport Logistics Supervisor , you will oversee day-to-day operations of patient transport and lift team services, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely movement of patients across the organization. You will lead a team responsible for positioning, transferring, and transporting patients via wheelchair, bed, or gurney, including those requiring moderate to total assistance. This role plays a critical part in supporting patient flow, staff coordination, and safe patient handling practices while maintaining high service and quality standards.

As a Patient Transport Logistics Supervisor , you will oversee day-to-day operations of patient transport and lift team services, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely movement of patients across the organization. You will lead a team responsible for positioning, transferring, and transporting patients via wheelchair, bed, or gurney, including those requiring moderate to total assistance. This role plays a critical part in supporting patient flow, staff coordination, and safe patient handling practices while maintaining high service and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Operations
- Oversee daily staffing, assignments, and workflow for Patient Transport, Lift Team, and Logistics staff
- Lead daily huddles and provide real-time guidance to ensure operational efficiency and service excellence
- Monitor productivity and maintain accurate shift activity logs
- Patient Care & Safety
- Ensure safe patient handling practices, including lifting, turning, transferring, and repositioning
- Serve as the department's Safe Patient Handling Champion , promoting compliance and best practices
- Training & Development
- Train and onboard new hires across Patient Transport, Lift Team, and Logistics functions
- Provide ongoing coaching and instruction to support staff performance and development
- Quality & Compliance
- Conduct administrative walkthroughs to ensure compliance with departmental standards and quality expectations
- Oversee equipment maintenance, cleaning, and disinfection protocols
- Coordination & Support
- Perform dispatching and clerical functions to support logistics operations
- Support decedent affairs processes with professionalism and sensitivity
- Serve as a departmental liaison to address service concerns and support service recovery efforts
Preferred:
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Understanding of basic medical terminology and CareConnect (Logistics Dashboard)
- Dispatching experience
- Experience in patient transport, lift team, or logistics
- Ability to transport patients in medical equipment using correct body mechanics.
- Ability to follow established lift/transfer procedures in a safe and competent manner such as repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, standing, and sitting for long periods of time; and lift, push, and pull a minimum of 150lbs.
- Interpersonal skills to interact diplomatically and sensitively with patients.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in the English language.
- Maintain cooperative working relationship with co-workers and all hospital staff.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations.
- Requires a minimum of 5 years experience in an acute care hospital in the Transportation Department or equivalent in a management position.
- Demonstrated skill in project management, including performance of functional and operational analysis.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and University regulations as they pertain to areas of responsibility.
- Knowledge of community and national healthcare institutions administrative practices and trends.
- Managerial skills to accomplish the many projects related to the management of the diverse areas of responsibilities.
- Ability to review and analyze information under time constraints and make prompt and appropriate decisions. Knowledge of business management principles and practices in a teaching/research health center, and skill in applying those principles to the department operation.
- People skills to foster a positive work environment to create effective liaison with areas throughout the hospital, and to interact diplomatically with the public in a high-volume public contact setting.
- Skill in organizing material and information in a systematic manner to maximize efficiency and minimize duplication effort.
- Ability to work varied hours upon short notice or report to work in the event of a disaster or staffing problems.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to deal with many details within a short span of time.
- Skill in analysis, budget preparation and control. Skill in developing long and short-range goals which are compatible with the overall Medical Enterprise objectives.
- Skill in independently identifying workflow, patient flow, personnel, and procedural problems and implementing viable solutions.
- Managerial skill to direct the recruitment, selection, and discipline of subordinate personnel.
- Skill in initiating team-building techniques to create a positive work environment and organizational cohesiveness.
- Ability to assess division training needs, develop appropriate training programs using a variety of available resources.
- Ability to establish and sustain effective relationships with external agencies, professional staff, administrators, and employees.
- Detailed knowledge of current state and federal resource programs, eligibility requirements and protocols.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Staff Personnel policies and procedures.
