eDiscovery Project Manager (New York or Washington DC)

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global Am Law 50 firm, is seeking a hard‑working, proactive, motivated individual to serve as eDiscovery Project Manager. We prefer candidates who can work from our Washington DC or New York office locations, but will consider other candidates who can work from one of our other U.S. offices: Downtown Los Angeles, Century City, Orange County, San Diego, Del Mar, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Chicago. There is only one opening. The eDiscovery Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the oversight and management of multiple eDiscovery matters simultaneously. This role requires expertise in the eDiscovery lifecycle, including data and project management, with a focus on customer service, planning and knowledge of the Sheppard Mullin technology suite. The PM will serve as the primary point of contact for attorneys, paralegals, clients and vendors involved with the case, and maintains a focus on excellent customer service. Responsibilities Provide sound advice and tactical support for data preservation, collection, processing and culling. Document hosting and review, including database design and strategic use of analytics to increase efficiency (concept searching/clustering, email threading, near duplicate detection, TAR, etc.). Plan and manage all eDiscovery activities associated with assigned matters, serving as the primary point of contact for attorneys, paralegals, clients and vendors. Conduct intake meetings to determine requirements, schedules, budget concerns, and deliverables; develop cost estimates/budgets and advise on issues affecting costs and timelines. Perform document productions with quality control checks and compliance with negotiated specifications. Perform quality testing of data deliverables, sent and received, including analysis of database load files, fielded data, images and compliance with specifications. Manage vendor services, quality check deliverables and monitor negotiated schedules and budgets. Troubleshoot eDiscovery applications and databases as necessary. Collaborate with team members to meet project goals and coach junior colleagues in their development. Maintain defensible records of case work; provide operational briefings to department management. Follow department best practices and information governance procedures, maintaining internal tracking logs. Essential Functions Translate technical issues and eDiscovery best practices to case teams, enabling them to understand decision points and have confidence in outcomes. Contribute to the operation and continuous improvement of the department, including drafting/updating best practices and participating in internal projects. Hands‑on with data at each stage of the EDRM, including data processing, exception handling, loading, deploying and leveraging analytics, running productions, and database maintenance and administration. Recognize situations that benefit from non‑standard solutions and seek additional guidance where appropriate. Required Qualifications Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an eDiscovery project manager, preferably in a large law firm environment. Effective oral and written communication skills, focused on clarity, accuracy and tact. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters and elevate issues as appropriate. Customer service orientation with attention to detail and process management skills. Ability to deliver results to case teams with moderate direct supervision. Emotional intelligence and professionalism consistent with the firm’s performance culture. Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree. License and Certification Preferred: Relativity Certified Administrator or equivalent. Computer/Software Knowledge Hands‑on skill with Relativity, including processing. Analytics tools such as Relativity Analytics and/or Brainspace. Transcript/exhibit and key fact management tools: CaseMap, TextMap, Case Fleet, Everchron, Opus2. Advanced text editors: Notepad++, UltraEdit, TextPad, EM editor. Microsoft Office products, MS Teams. Basic understanding of forensic data collection tools and methodologies. Pre‑ferred: Knowledge of Page Vault. Work Environment Indoor office work environment. This position has a unique hybrid arrangement with a graduated in‑office requirement: first 6 months, minimum 3 days per week in the office and remaining days home; afterward, with approval, minimum 1 day per week in office. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Requirements Up to 10% travel within the U.S. for conferences and/or department/firm meetings. Salary New York: The pay range for this position is $115,500 - $173,250 per year.
