Nutrition Coordinator - Local Hire, Global Health

Location: Palestine - Gaza Strip

POSITION SUMMARY: The Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating all nutrition-related activities under a funded healthcare project in Gaza. The position ensures high-quality, evidence-based nutrition programming targeting vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant and lactating women, and other at-risk groups. The Nutrition Coordinator will provide technical leadership, oversee implementation of nutrition services, and strengthen local capacity in a complex humanitarian and emergency context.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Technical Leadership and Program Strategy
  • Represent the organization in Nutrition Cluster coordination meetings, technical working groups, and inter-agency forums.
  • Coordinate with key nutrition stakeholders including UNICEF, WFP, WHO, local authorities, and implementing partners to ensure alignment with national strategies and sector priorities.
  • Strengthen coordination mechanisms between nutrition programming and other sectors including health, WASH, protection, and community outreach to support an integrated response.
• Program Planning and Technical Oversight
  • Lead the technical planning and oversight of nutrition activities across supported program sites in line with approved workplans, operational plans, and donor requirements.
  • Develop nutrition implementation plans including service delivery models, caseload projections, and site coverage strategies.
  • Ensure standardized systems for malnutrition screening, referral pathways, and follow-up mechanisms are functioning effectively across facilities and community outreach platforms.
  • Review program performance indicators such as admission trends, cure rates, default rates, and coverage, and recommend corrective actions to strengthen program effectiveness.
• Coordination and Sector Representation
  • Represent the organization in Nutrition Cluster coordination meetings, technical working groups, and relevant inter-agency forums.
  • Maintain effective coordination with key stakeholders including UNICEF, WFP, WHO, and partner NGOs.
  • Strengthen coordination between nutrition programming and other sectors including health, WASH, protection, and community outreach to support integrated service delivery.
  • Contribute to sector-level information sharing, assessments, and coordinated humanitarian responses.
• Capacity Building, Risk Management and Accountability
  • Strengthen technical capacity of nutrition staff through mentoring, training, and supportive supervision.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervision to Nutrition Officers and field nutrition teams to ensure consistent application of nutrition protocols.
  • Identify operational and programmatic risks related to nutrition activities and support implementation of appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Ensure safeguarding principles, protection mainstreaming, gender sensitivity, and accountability to affected populations (AAP) are integrated across nutrition services.
  • Promote adherence to humanitarian principles, ethical standards, and organizational policies in all nutrition programming activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, or another relevant health sciences field. A master degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or Health Management is an advantage.
• Minimum 3-7 years of relevant professional experience in nutrition programming, including experience with Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF/IYCF-E), and emergency nutrition interventions.
• Proven experience working with Nutrition Cluster mechanisms and coordination with UN agencies such as UNICEF, WFP, WHO, and national health authorities.
• Strong knowledge of international humanitarian standards and guidelines, including SPHERE standards, WHO nutrition guidance, and Nutrition Cluster protocols.
• Demonstrated experience in nutrition program coordination and technical supervision within humanitarian or emergency settings, preferably in complex or conflict-affected environment
• Experience working with donor-funded projects
• Strong analytical, reporting, and coordination skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate across departments and cultures.
• Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
