SUMMARY

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing drilling equipment, vehicles, and support equipment used in field operations. This position ensures that company equipment is maintained in safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition while minimizing equipment downtime.

The Heavy Duty Mechanic performs preventative maintenance and repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications, company procedures, and applicable safety requirements. The position works closely with the Drilling Supervisor/Program Manager to prioritize repairs, communicate equipment status, and support ongoing drilling and field operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair drilling and support equipment, including truck-mounted drill rigs, track-mounted drill rigs, forklifts, skid steers, support trucks, trailers, air compressors, small engines, and water pumps.
• Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Inspect and adjust fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, clutches, and other mechanical components as necessary.
• Change filters and oil, lubricate vehicles and motor-driven equipment, and perform other routine maintenance to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
• Repair and replace mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components in accordance with OEM specifications and standards.
• Perform repairs and maintenance with particular emphasis on Mobile Drill and Diedrich drilling equipment and John Deere and Deutz engines.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system problems using schematics, diagnostic equipment, and appropriate testing procedures.
• Complete accurate service and maintenance records for all work performed.
• Communicate equipment condition, repair status, required parts, and anticipated maintenance needs to the Drilling Supervisor/Program Manager.
• Identify equipment deficiencies and recommend needed repairs or replacement components.
• Assist with obtaining and identifying parts required to complete repairs and maintenance.
• Safely operate tools, diagnostic equipment, machinery, vehicles, and other equipment required to perform assigned work.
• Follow all company safety procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Collaborate with the Drilling Supervisor/Program Manager to prioritize repairs and preventative maintenance activities in order to minimize equipment downtime.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Travel, nights, and/or weekends required,

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS DESIRED

• Two (2) to four (4) years of hands-on experience repairing and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles, heavy equipment, drilling equipment, or similar machinery.
• Trade certification, technical school training, diesel technology training, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
• Valid Unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record REQUIRED .
• Experience and ability to perform mobile repairs- or similar required.
• Must have own tools appropriate for the position required.
• Experience working with Mobile Drill and Diedrich drilling equipment strongly preferred.
• Experience working with John Deere and Deutz engines strongly preferred.
• Welding experience and/or welding certifications preferred.
• MSHA Part 48 training/certification preferred
• Strong working knowledge of diesel engines and mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Ability to diagnose equipment problems and perform appropriate repairs with limited supervision.
• Experience reading hydraulic and electrical schematics and using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions and perform detailed work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and service records.
• Must successfully complete required pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND WORK PERFORMED

Work is performed in both shop and field/project environments. The position requires frequent hands-on mechanical work on drilling equipment, diesel engines, vehicles, trailers, and related support equipment. Work may be performed outdoors for extended periods and in varied weather conditions.

• Work in shop and field environments, including outdoor conditions and extreme temperatures.
• Safely operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, tools, and drilling/support equipment.
• Perform physical tasks including standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Wear required PPE and safely access/work around heavy equipment.
