Medical Assistant and Surgical Technician (Patient Care Coordination)

Established Private Surgical Practice

An established private surgical practice is seeking a compassionate, organized, and clinically skilled Medical Assistant & Surgical Technician to join our team.

This is a highly patient-facing position for someone who enjoys developing strong relationships with patients while working closely alongside the physician throughout the surgical process. The ideal candidate will provide hands-on clinical support, assist during surgical procedures, and ensure that every patient feels informed, comfortable, and well cared for before and after surgery.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical and Clinical Support

• Prepare treatment and surgical rooms for procedures
• Assist the physician during surgical procedures
• Maintain sterile technique and support a safe, organized surgical environment
• Prepare, organize, and account for surgical instruments and supplies
• Clean and sterilize instruments according to established protocols
• Assist with room turnover and post-procedure cleanup
• Document clinical information accurately in patient medical records
• Perform medical assistant duties within the candidate’s training and permitted scope of practice

Preoperative Patient Care

• Guide patients through the preoperative process
• Review instructions, required testing, medications, and procedure-day expectations
• Collect and document relevant patient information
• Coordinate required forms, clearances, photographs, and clinical documentation
• Answer patient questions and communicate concerns to the physician
• Help patients feel prepared, supported, and confident before surgery

Postoperative Patient Care

• Support patients immediately following procedures
• Review postoperative instructions, medications, wound care, and recovery expectations
• Conduct follow-up communication and monitor patient recovery
• Coordinate postoperative appointments
• Identify questions or concerns requiring physician review
• Maintain compassionate and consistent communication throughout recovery

Patient Coordination

• Serve as a reliable point of contact throughout each patient’s surgical journey
• Coordinate communication among patients, the physician, and the practice team
• Assist with scheduling procedures and related appointments
• Maintain accurate patient records and follow-up documentation
• Deliver a professional, attentive, and personalized patient experience

Qualifications

• Surgical technology, medical assisting, or comparable clinical experience
• Bi-lingual preferred (but not required)
• Experience assisting with surgical or in-office procedures preferred
• Knowledge of sterile technique, infection control, and instrument handling
• Strong interpersonal and patient-care skills
• Excellent organization, communication, and attention to detail
• Ability to remain composed and professional in a surgical environment
• Comfortable working closely and collaboratively with a physician
• Dependable, compassionate, and proactive
• Experience in a private surgical practice, outpatient procedure setting, or another procedural medical specialty preferred
• Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
• Relevant surgical technology or medical assisting certification preferred
