WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (ESSENTIAL DUTIES) …

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Intern to join our multidisciplinary team. Under the supervision of a licensed and appropriately credentialed clinical preceptor, the APRN Intern will gain experience providing person-centered behavioral health care, including psychiatric assessment, diagnostic formulation, treatment planning, medication management, and client and family education. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong foundational clinical knowledge, professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to learning and improving client well-being.

Internship Duties and Learning Responsibilities:

· Participate in psychiatric evaluations and clinical assessments under the supervision of a licensed and appropriately credentialed preceptor.

· Assist in developing individualized, recovery-oriented treatment plans based on clinical findings and client goals.

· Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and contribute to clinical consultation regarding clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use needs.

· Observe and, when permitted by law, academic program requirements, and agency policy, participate in psychotropic medication evaluation and management under direct supervision.

· Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with NMH standards and preceptor guidance.

· Monitor client response to interventions, communicate observations to the preceptor and treatment team, and support updates to recovery plans.

· Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and psychoeducation to clients and families within the intern’s level of training and assigned scope.

· Participate in supervision, case review, training, and performance feedback, and promptly seek guidance when clinical concerns exceed the intern’s knowledge or authority.

Requirements

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU…

· Current enrollment in an accredited graduate nursing program leading to APRN preparation, with good academic standing.

· Eligibility and written approval from the academic program to complete a supervised clinical internship or practicum placement.

· Current, unrestricted registered nurse license in Rhode Island, or eligibility to obtain any authorization required for the placement.

· Foundational knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnostic principles, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment for adult behavioral health conditions.

· Prior behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, or related clinical experience preferred.

· Ability to practice only within the intern’s level of training, academic agreement, agency policy, and applicable law, and to accept direction from the assigned preceptor.

· Strong communication, documentation, time-management, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

· Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, person-centered, and recovery-oriented care.

· Ability to meet NMH onboarding, confidentiality, health, background screening, and training requirements applicable to student interns.
