Alaska Staffing
Part-Time Corrections Nurse 1/2 Position
This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify. The Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is recruiting to fill a part-time Corrections Nurse 1/2 position located in Kenai at the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility.
What You Will Be Doing: Under the supervision of higher-level nurses, and in accordance with an established training plan, the Corrections Nurse 1/2 (CN 1/2) performs developmental duties independently assessing, monitoring, and maintaining the physical well-being of the residents at the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility, a 24-hour secure facility. The CN 1/2 provides direct care within their scope of practice and utilizes medical protocols, when necessary and available, to meet the health needs of the residents. When medical conditions are beyond their scope or protocols, the CN 1/2 refers the resident to a higher level of care. This is a flexibly staffed CN 1/2 position. The CN 1 incumbent, upon completing the probationary period and acquiring the necessary competencies through the training plan, may progress to a CN 2.
Our Organization, Mission, and Culture: Through Restorative Justice, we hold juvenile offenders accountable for their behavior; promote the safety and restoration of victims and communities; and assist offenders and their families in developing the skills to prevent crime. Our core values include:
- Prioritizing Safety of our youth, staff, families, and communities
- Responsiveness providing timely response to youth, families, victims, staff, and justice partners.
- Professional Relationships recognizing that successful treatment services provided to our clients, coworkers, victims, and others rely on positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships and a spirit of inclusiveness.
- Dedication doing the right things for the right reasons and modeling relentless integrity and leadership.
- Respect for the inherent value of each person's unique strengths and individual differences.
The work of a Corrections Nurse 1/2 includes promoting these values through direct medical care of juveniles in the Division's custody.
The Benefits of Joining Our Team: Join an amazing team of nurses who are committed to providing quality healthcare to youth residents within DJJ facilities. Take advantage of a unique opportunity to learn and grow professionally, while serving Alaska's youth and families. Our nurses are tirelessly dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services, despite obstacles, and we believe in enhancing the strengths of our staff by promoting training and professional development.
The Working Environment You Can Expect: You will work as a permanent part-time employee at the Kenai Peninsula Youth Center located at 405 Marathon Road in Kenai. This opportunity offers a flexible schedule, working between 25 and 29.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with hours tailored to meet the needs of both the employee and the facility. Our Kenai facility is a small-capacity facility serving a maximum of 10 youth, allowing for a more personalized and impactful approach to juvenile justice and rehabilitation services.
