Lab Technologist

The Lab Technologist performs a wide range of laboratory testing and cell culture activities to support regulated studies, including cytotoxicity and hemocompatibility assays. This role focuses on accurate data analysis, strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines, and effective communication of findings. Responsibilities:

• Perform laboratory testing, including cytotoxicity and hemocompatibility assays, and analyze test data with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Follow Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines at all times, including proper documentation, labeling of samples and reagents, and participation in audits.
• Maintain cell cultures by performing propagation, viability testing, and preparation of testing plates to support ongoing studies.
• Prepare and extract samples in accordance with study protocols and applicable standards such as USP and JMHLW.
• Communicate testing issues, abnormal findings, and results to appropriate stakeholders, including study leadership, quality assurance, and internal teams.
• Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, biosafety hoods, washers, and depyrogenation ovens.
• Prepare media and reagents, manage laboratory inventory, and ensure adequate supplies are available for testing activities.
• Perform data entry, calculations, and result analysis, and promptly report unusual or unexpected findings to designated personnel.
• Review incoming samples and accompanying documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with study requirements.
• Assist with test article preparation and communicate updates to the testing schedule as needed to keep projects on track.
• Maintain laboratory records, logbooks, and worksheets in an organized, compliant, and audit-ready manner.
• Perform environmental monitoring, gowning procedures, and microbial sample submissions when required by protocols or standard operating procedures.
• Support sterile glassware preparation and processing, including loading and unloading washers, operating autoclaves, and using depyrogenation ovens.
• Complete chain-of-custody documentation to ensure accurate sample tracking and traceability throughout the testing process.
• Monitor laboratory equipment on a daily basis and respond to equipment alarms in accordance with established SOPs.
• Assist with ordering and stocking laboratory supplies, ensuring materials are available and properly stored.
• Participate in training and support of new laboratory associates, sharing best practices for aseptic technique, equipment use, and documentation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and aseptic work environment, including regular cleaning and maintenance of workspaces and hoods.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in cell culture techniques, including propagation, viability testing, and plate preparation.
• Strong foundation in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or biomedical sciences relevant to laboratory testing.
• Experience or training in aseptic technique and working in a lab/aseptic environment under a biosafety hood.
• Ability to perform and interpret assays, including cytotoxicity and hemocompatibility tests.
• Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) guidelines and the ability to follow them consistently.
• Comfort working in a facility that conducts live animal testing and handling related materials.
• Ability to work safely with sharps, human and animal blood, and hazardous or caustic chemicals.
• Attention to detail in documentation, labeling, data entry, and record-keeping.
• Ability to operate, clean, and maintain common laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, biosafety hoods, washers, and ovens.
• Effective communication skills for reporting results, abnormal findings, and testing issues.
• Strong organizational skills for managing inventory, maintaining supplies, and tracking samples.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field, with biochemical or bioengineering disciplines particularly well suited to the role.
• Openness to working with live animal testing environments and related study protocols.
• Interest in growing into more advanced roles such as principal technologist or study director.
• Ability to learn and apply USP and JMHLW standards as they relate to sample preparation and testing.
• Willingness to support training of new laboratory associates and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Work Environment:

This is a first-shift, Monday through Friday position, with typical hours of either 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are no night or weekend shifts, and overtime is minimal. The role is based in a laboratory and aseptic environment, working underneath a biosafety hood and with equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, washers, and depyrogenation ovens. The work involves handling live animal-related materials, sharps, human and animal blood, and hazardous or caustic chemicals, following strict safety and GLP guidelines. Maintaining a clean and orderly workspace is crucial to supporting cell culture integrity and overall laboratory quality, and employees are expected to adhere to appropriate gowning and aseptic procedures.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northwood, OH.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
