Position Details Department: PCH-MAIN | Language Services Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon-Fri, Sat, Sun, (Days Vary), Shifts Vary, 8am-5pm Category: Interpreter & Translation Svcs Posting #: 1019798 Employee Type: PRN Position Summary This position provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing patients and families in a wide variety of hospital and outpatient clinical settings and English interpretation of ASL for medical providers, and other hospital/clinic support staff. Position Duties Concurrently performs English to ASL and ASL to English interpretation of patient care needs between patient, family and healthcare team members to ensure understanding of needs, issues, and/or concerns. Provides recommendations to the health care team on how best to improve communication needs of patient and/or family. Assists with providing for the deaf and hard of hearing patient/family communication needs, including assessing and adjusting lighting, seating arrangements and access to visual aides or recommending additional communication resources like a certified deaf interpreter (CDI). Receives, acknowledges, and accepts assignments from ASL Interpreter Coordinator. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience (Required) Experience: American Sign Language experience in a hospital setting (Required) American Sign Language experience with interpreting for children (Required) Special Skills: Fully fluent in American Sign Language to English and English to American Sign Language (Required) Computer skills (Required) Must possess strong concentration, speaking and listening skills (Required) Fluency in spoken Spanish (Preferred) Additional Requirements: Current national professional certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID certified) or Board of Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI certified) (Required) Current license from the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH) (Required) Certification / License / Registry Requirements: Board for Eval of Interpreters OR Registry Interpreters for Deaf - Required AZ - American Sign Language - Required Physical Requirements & Occupational Exposure/Risk Potential Climbing – Occasionally Feeling (sensing textures and temperatures) – Frequently Fine Motor Skills (pinching, gripping, etc) – Constantly Hearing – Constantly Pushing/pulling – Occasionally Reaching – Occasionally Sitting – Constantly Standing – Constantly Stooping/crouching/kneeling/crawling – Frequently Talking – Constantly Tasting/smelling – Occasionally Walking – Frequently Near Vision – Constantly Far Vision – Constantly Color Discrimination – Occasionally Use of keyboard, mouse and/or computer equipment – Frequently Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance – Occasionally Occupational Exposure/Risk Potential – Inside office environment, Confined areas, Airborne communicable diseases, Bloodborne pathogens or bodily fluid, Fumes or airborne particles, Hazardous materials exposure, Radiation exposure – Applicable #J-18808-Ljbffr Phoenix Children's
