Position Overview
The STEAMProgram Coordinator will lead the design and daily operation of specific youth programs, ensuring safe, high-quality, and engaging experiences for participants. The STEAM Program Coordinator is responsible for the content, logistics, and onsite delivery of Camp Fire’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) initiatives, while also supporting other programs with STEAM-based curriculum, activities, and onsite assistance as needed.
STEAM offerings may include LEGO robotics, themed No School Day Camps, Camp Fire Afterschool, and summer camps that explore topics in robotics, engineering, ecology, and/or outdoor education The Coordinator collaborates closely with the Program Manager to implement programs, support staff, and gather feedback for continuous improvement and future program growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development and Delivery
- Design and lead engaging STEAM programming for K–8 youth.
- Support the integration of STEAM learning across other Camp Fire programs as needed, including No School Day Camps and Campfire Afterschool.
- Facilitate Lego Robotics programming and Introductory robotics programs. Adapt and implement lesson plans and activities that foster hands-on learning, curiosity, and skill-building, while incorporating youth voice and leadership.
- Develop and lead program routines that build community, support social-emotional development, and inspire a sense of purpose and belonging.
Program Management and Logistics
- Coordinate day-to-day operations for assigned programs, including scheduling, site setup, supply management, and equipment maintenance.
- Communicate program expectations and logistics clearly to families and participants before and during programs.
- Ensure all spaces are welcoming, safe, and well-organized for youth and staff.
- Assist with registration, planning timelines, and preparation for special program elements (e.g., field trips, guest speakers).
Youth Safety and Behavior Support
- Maintain a safe physical and emotional environment through thoughtful behavior practices and responsive, compassionate youth engagement.
- Support peer conflict resolution and emotional regulation using trauma-informed strategies and industry best practices.
- Respond promptly to medical or behavioral incidents and maintain clear documentation.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with the Program Manager to evaluate program quality and use data to create program improvement plans.
- Fill in or provide onsite support within other Camp Fire programs as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and organization-wide initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide support at outreach events and other Camp Fire initiatives outside normal program hours as needed.
- Contribute to general nonprofit operations, such as special projects and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications
Expected
- Bachelor's degree in related field (Ex: education, non-profit management); or 3+ years experience managing, planning and executing youth programs or events; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Direct experience facilitating hands-on learning activities with children or youth.
- Experience managing program logistics, including scheduling, supply preparation, and basic administrative tasks.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or ability to obtain certification prior to start date.
- Ability to meet physical demands of active youth programming, including standing, walking, lifting, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred
- Experience developing or facilitating STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) curriculum or themed youth programs.
- Coursework or degree in STEAM-related fields.
- Background working with diverse communities.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, run, bend, crouch, and lift objects during program observation and participation.
- Some programs require extended outdoor activity in a variety of weather conditions.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting Wage: Minimum $22.00 per hour depending on experience. Based upon an expected schedule averaging 35 hours/week.
