Internship Opportunity With Sarasota County Government

Sarasota County Government offers an internship in environmental science with the Stormwater Division. This internship provides hands-on experience in data collection and analysis, project management, and fieldwork in waterbodies. Interns will gain skills in surface water quality monitoring, public outreach, data review, and project management. The program includes networking, professional development, and building connections with mentors and team members.

By the end of the internship, interns will learn to collect surface water quality samples, review environmental data, create outreach materials, and coordinate project management activities. Department responsibilities include assisting with project management, program liaison tasks, and creating educational outreach materials. Interns will also collaborate with colleagues to make real changes.

The internship program includes a presentation to County Leadership, participation in intern events, and professional development events such as Civics 101, Business Etiquette, and Philanthropy. Competitive wages, hands-on work experience, professional headshots, and one-on-one mentoring with county staff are provided.

Minimum qualifications include being at least 18 years old or 16 with parental consent, having a high school diploma or equivalent, and being eligible to work in the United States. Preferred qualifications include candidates working toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science or a related field.

The 2023 internship program runs from May 22, 2023, to August 11, 2023, with 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pay ranges from $13 to $20 per hour based on credit hours earned.
