This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Health Information Specialist 1 (Temporary) based in the United States.
This temporary remote opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in healthcare information management and medical records operations.
You will play an important role in ensuring patient information is processed accurately, securely, and efficiently.
The position focuses on managing health information requests while protecting patient privacy and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.
You will work in a structured, high-volume environment supported by training, mentorship, and dedicated tools.
This role provides hands-on experience with electronic medical records, release of information processes, and healthcare administration workflows.
You will contribute directly to improving access to critical medical information for patients, providers, and authorized organizations.
Accountabilities:
As a Health Information Specialist 1, you will support the accurate and timely processing of medical record requests while ensuring confidentiality, compliance, and excellent service. You will manage healthcare documentation workflows, communicate with internal and external stakeholders, and maintain high standards for data accuracy and privacy.
- Receive, review, and process requests for patient health information according to established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all medical record disclosures comply with authorization requirements, privacy standards, and HIPAA regulations.
- Safeguard confidential patient information and maintain secure handling of medical records throughout all processes.
- Respond to inbound and outbound calls from patients, insurance companies, attorneys, and other authorized requesters regarding medical record status.
- Retrieve, organize, prepare, and transmit medical records through appropriate systems and channels.
- Maintain accurate documentation across multiple platforms and electronic health record systems.
- Prepare patient charts, organize records in standard order, and ensure documentation is complete and accurate.
- Create digital images of paper documentation for storage within electronic medical record systems.
- Support administrative activities including data entry, fax management, mail handling, and scheduling record pickups when needed.
- Meet productivity, quality, and service expectations while adapting to changing priorities and workload demands.
- Collaborate with team members and managers to address workflow challenges and improve operational efficiency.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare information environment. You should have strong communication skills, basic technical proficiency, and the ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Basic computer skills and comfort using Microsoft Office applications, electronic systems, phones, fax machines, printers, and other office equipment.
- Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and quality.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume production environment.
- Detail-oriented approach with a strong commitment to protecting confidential information.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs.
- Experience in healthcare, medical records, customer service, or administrative environments is a plus.
- Previous experience working with productivity metrics, process improvement, or client-facing responsibilities is beneficial.
