Accessibility Resource Specialist

Summary Saint Xavier University's Center for Accessibility Resources (CAR) is committed to working closely with staff and faculty in support of equal access, reasonable accommodations and academic assistance for students with documented disabilities. The Accessibility Resource Specialist works with faculty and staff to coordinate and implement disability accommodations and learning assistance services for eligible students in accordance with ADA, Section 504 and state law. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Work with the Director of the CAR to process intakes for accommodation requests, to include the collection, verification, and maintenance of relevant documentation. Assist with analyzing and interpreting students' diagnostic assessments to determine eligibility for services. Work collaboratively with faculty and professional staff across the University and act as a college-wide resource with matters concerning disability legislation, compliance, accommodations, available services, as well as CAR procedures. Coordinate testing processes and scheduling; facilitate reasonable didactic, lab and clinical accommodations including the arranging of assistive technology consistent with students' letter of accommodation and throughout their academic career. Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement. Maintain and track case files. Assist in disability related programming and campus educational and assessment initiatives. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling or related field required; Master's degree in Special Education, Counseling or Social Work preferred. Minimum of 1 year of experience working directly with students with disabilities in a higher education setting required. Knowledge of federal and state laws related to providing disability accommodations in a university or college setting and in compliance with ADA and Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Knowledge of various diagnostic assessments commonly utilized to identify limitations experienced by individuals with disabilities preferred. Strong verbal and written communication, analytical and organization skills. Proven ability to evaluate and interpret disability documentation to implement reasonable accommodations. Ability to professionally and appropriately manage sensitive and confidential information. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively to largely diverse groups. Understanding and experience with assistive and accessible information technologies.
