Class A Fitter WelderA successful Class A Fitter Welder should be able to take a fabrication drawing from paper to properly fitted assembly with minimal direction. Candidates should demonstrate strong judgment, precision layout skills, excellent fit-up techniques, and the ability to recognize problems before they become costly rework.Day Shift Hours: Monday - Thursday 6a - 4:30p, Friday 6a - 3:30p, Saturday's as required 6a - 11aNight Shift Hours: Monday - Thursday 4p - 2:30a, Friday 4p - 1:30a, Saturday's as required 4p - 9pSign On Bonus: $2000. This sign on bonus is paid out in two parts. $1000 will be paid out upon six months of employment, with the other $1000 paid out upon the completion of one year of employment.Class A Fitter ResponsibilitiesInterpret drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specificationsSelect and verify correct materials before fabricationPerform accurate layout and dimensional calculationsCut, bevel, grind, and prepare material for fabricationFit and align components to required dimensions and tolerancesSet up fixtures, clamps, and lifting equipment as requiredCalculate circumference and degree locations for round componentsPerform accurate tack welding and prepare assemblies for final weldingCheck dimensions, squareness, alignment, and fit-up throughout the fabrication processIdentify and correct fit-up issues before final weldingMaintain clean, organized, and safe work areasInspect completed work for dimensional accuracy and workmanshipWork efficiently while maintaining American Wheatley's quality standardsMinimum Qualifications5+ years of professional fitter/welder experienceProven ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprintsStrong understanding of welding symbols and weld specificationsAbility to accurately measure, layout, cut, and fit structural and fabricated componentsExperienced with pipe, plate, structural steel, and miscellaneous fabricationAbility to calculate and lay out angles and degrees on round componentsStrong knowledge of dimensions, tolerances, and fit-up requirementsAbility to use tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, grinders, torches, and other fabrication toolsAbility to properly tack and fixture assemblies while controlling distortionAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong attention to detail and commitment to qualityMust be able to follow all company safety proceduresPreferred ExperienceStructural and industrial fabricationPipe and vessel-related fabricationExperience working from detailed fabrication drawingsExperience with multiple welding processesFormal welding/fabrication training or certificationsRigging and material-handling experiencePhysical RequirementsThe following physical activities are essential to successfully perform this job:Standing/Walking: Up to 6 hours per shiftLifting/Carrying: Regular lifting of materials up to 50 lbsBending/Stooping/Kneeling: Frequent throughout shiftReaching/Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and arms for tool operation and assembly workVision/Hearing/Communication: Clear vision and hearing required for safety and effective communicationPushing/Pulling/Climbing: Periodic pushing or pulling of equipment or materials; occasional ladder use.Exposure to heat, sparks, smoke, and fumes from welding operationsModerate to loud noise levels from machinery and toolsMust be willing and able to work outside in a manufacturing / warehouse environment with varying temperaturesMust wear personal protective equipment (PPE)Reasonable Accommodation The employer will provide reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals with disabilities, to enable them to perform essential job functions, unless doing so would create an undue hardship.
