FARM INTERN

Description We are looking for a caretaker for our small educational farm on the grounds of Camp Shomria, a Jewish overnight camp for kids ages 7‑16 that focuses on community‑led education by youth and for youth. This is an 8‑week immersive internship running from June 26th until August 16th, with flexibility to adjust start and end dates if needed. Room and board are entirely provided, plus a weekly stipend. This position can include a one‑month residency in June with our partners at Root 'N Roost Farm, a permaculture farm located just five minutes down the road from Camp Shomria. While this residency before the start of camp is not required, it is encouraged because interns will have the opportunity for more in‑depth learning of permaculture practices and the duties of the farm. Responsibilities General maintenance of farm infrastructure (fencing, chicken coop, irrigation system), caring for farm animals including chickens and sheep (feeding, watering, monitoring), and constructing and tending to compost bins. Weeding and weed‑whacking regularly. Beautification of the farm: painting and labeling raised beds, adding any personal touches you wish to contribute to the space. Supporting and communicating with counselors around youth farm chores such as egg collection, vegetable harvesting, and more. Engaging with children participating in educational programming on the farm. Qualifications Background related to agriculture and/or gardening a plus. Experience in education and working with kids a plus. Team and community‑mindful individual. Comfortable in an environment that educates towards social, economic, racial, and environmental justice.
