MRI Technologist

Job Description The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist works under the supervision of leadership. The MRI technologists perform scans using radiofrequencies within a magnetic field to produce images of bones, organs, and soft tissue. They also prepare and administer contrast agents to obtain some images. MRI technologist can work in various clinical environments, such as the hospital or diagnostic imaging centers. MRI Technologists may rotate into other modalities including CT, fluoroscopy, and diagnostic radiology. Responsibilities Interpret a provider's instructions. Screen patients for safety prior to entering zone 4. Explain MRI, fluoroscopy, and/or diagnostic procedures to patients. Prepare patients for procedures. Select software options and imaging parameters when adjusting imaging equipment. View images from an imaging session and keep records of the results. Review and complete patient exam and charges within the radiology information system. Other duties as assigned Education Completion of Radiologic Technology program. - Required Work Experience 1 Year - Preferred Licenses and Certifications Registered Technologist (R.T.) - Required Upon Hire Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - Required Upon Hire Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Upon Hire Travel Requirements Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required Essential Technical/Motor Skills Inputting data, calibrating equipment, answering telephone, speaking clearly, manipulating small items, fine motor skills, knowledge of body mechanics and CPR. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Interpersonal Skills Effective communication skills and ability to interact with patients, staff, visitors, physicians, etc. Must work well as a team member. Essential Physical Requirements Walking, pushing, pulling, lifting 35 lbs, restraining, standing, kneeling, moving equipment, speaking. Essential Mental Abilities Manipulating numbers, interpreting data, explaining, assessing appropriateness of exam, adaptability, reading, and organizational skills. Essential Sensory Requirements Visual skills, hearing and speaking. Exposure to Hazards Radiation, body fluids, needle puncture, hazardous materials. Other Skills And Abilities Caregivers must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in all age groups.
