Weld Operator I: $22.00–$24.00/hour
Weld Operator II: $23.00–$28.00/hour

About this Opportunity:

The Weld Operator performs MIG and TIG welding throughout a range of material gauges, alloys, and positions. This position joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable materials while following customer specifications, blueprints, schematics, and established welding processes.

The level of the position will be determined based on the candidate's welding, sheet metal, fabrication, and related experience.

Responsibilities:

• Identify the correct gas and wire for the welding process. 
• Use oxy-acetylene torch to cut material as needed. 
• Use plasma torch to cut material as needed. 
• Read and understand blueprints. 
• Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials by applying the appropriate welding technique. 
• Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine the appropriate welding process. 
• Read and follow weld maps as required. 
• Demonstrate consistent ability to execute sound groove, full penetration, fillet, joint, lap, and butt welds. 
• Consistently fabricate and weld customer products within customer specifications with little to no defects. 
• Perform multi-pass stack-ups throughout required ranges. 
• Perform full penetration welds throughout required ranges. 
• Demonstrate through testing the ability to accurately perform carbon air arc cutting. 
• Develop and build weld fixturing, including advanced weld fixturing as required. 
• Create prototype parts from customer blueprints or schematics within customer tolerances. 
• Straighten welded parts. 
• Utilize clamps and porta power to bend and manipulate parts to bring them within tolerances. 
• Demonstrate through testing on 2-inch plate the ability to gouge and bevel with air arc, then perform a full penetration weld on both sides. 
• Make weld repairs on parts and weldments without disrupting existing dimensions. 
• Make sound MIG and TIG weld repairs across all product ranges. 
• Solder and braze materials ranging from mild steel to copper. 
• Drill and tap as needed. 
• Set up and operate rolling machinery. 
• Set up and operate an ironworker to notch, bend, or straighten parts, pieces, or fixturing. 
• Weld holes up to 4 inches deep. 
• Visually inspect welds for defects. 
• Visually inspect equipment and tools for wear. 
• Maintain current forklift driving certification. 
• Obtain applicable D1.1, D1.3, or D1.6 certification as needed.

• Weld Operator I: Minimum of 6 months of sheet metal and/or metalworking-related experience. 
• Weld Operator II: Minimum of 2.5 years of sheet metal experience, of which at least 2 years must be MIG and/or TIG welding experience. 
• Ability to use MIG and TIG to produce basic butt and fillet welds. 
• Ability to read and understand written documents and verbal instructions. 
• Ability to read and comprehend basic blueprints. 
• Dexterity to work with basic welding tools and fixtures. 
• Basic arithmetic skills, including addition and subtraction. 
• Ability to straighten welded parts. 
• Ability to use dial calipers, vernier calipers, protractors, squares, and other measuring instruments as required. 
• Ability to obtain applicable D1.1, D1.3, or D1.6 certifications as needed. 
• Most assigned tasks may involve Medium Work, with some tasks involving Heavy Work as defined by the specific assignment.
