This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent placement.

Position: Phlebotomist

Location: Silver Spring, MD

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm

Projected Duration: 3 months + potential for perm

Minimum of 1 year of experience required

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to support in completing various assigned tasks, troubleshooting, training, and offering suggestions for work flow improvements.

Experience in conducting blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging samples, documenting maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.

Collects and preserves specimens following established protocols.

Clearly and courteously explains the venipuncture (blood draw) process or other specimen collection methods (e.g. urine or fecal samples) as necessary.

Demonstrate technique with straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Comprehend all physician orders accurately.

Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens based on test orders.

Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against script for accuracy.

Prepare specimens for transportation.

Store specimen samples at required temperature, place samples in appropriate containers/tubes, label accurately, follow specific protocols for transportation to maintain sample integrity. Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participate in annual department trainings.

Handle phone calls, interpret laboratory results to address inquiries.

Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment

Minimum of 5 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

High School Diploma or GED
