Field Service Technician - Salt Lake City, UTThe Field Service Technician provides on-site and remote support to customers, troubleshooting hardware, software, and application issues, while performing installations, repairs, and training on analytical instrumentation.Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Support & ServiceProvide on-site, remote, and phone-based technical and application supportTroubleshoot complex equipment issues and answer technical questionsPerform installation, service, repair, upgrades, and training at customer sitesEnsure timely resolution of customer issues and maintain operational qualityInstallation & CommissioningInstall complex instruments and execute testing proceduresVerify product performance and approve operational readinessIdentify start-up malfunctions and implement corrective actionsTechnical CollaborationWork closely with in-house Technical Support and Manufacturing teams to resolve issuesProvide feedback and recommend design improvementsMaintain up-to-date technical knowledge through ongoing training (local and international)Reporting & AdministrationPrepare and submit service and expense reports accurately and on timeTravelTravel extensively (minimum 90%) across the U.S. (Monday–Friday) via plane or car. Occasional international travel and weekend/holiday work.Requirements for ConsiderationEducation & ExperienceAssociate's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience5–7 years of hands-on field service or maintenance/repair experienceMinimum 2 years of Arc/Spark OES analytical instrumentation experienceStrong chemistry backgroundTechnical SkillsStrong knowledge of control system electronics and high-voltage power suppliesUnderstanding of analytical instrumentation operationKnowledge of vacuum systems, metallurgy, physics, and chemistry (preferred)Proficiency with basic hand toolsStrong computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costsThe successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.Other RequirementsAbility to travel extensively within the U.S. (90%+) with occasional international travelMust be located within 1 hour of Salt Lake City, UtahAbout the Business UnitSPECTRO is a global leader in analytical instrumentation, specializing in optical emission (Arc/Spark OES, ICP-OES) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technologies for elemental analysis.
