This role directly supports Branson's pledge to the Town of Ross and neighboring residents to keep campus traffic net-neutral and to operate as a considerate, compliant neighbor. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Neighborhood Traffic & Driver-Behavior Monitoring
- Monitor vehicle speed, stop-sign and stop-light compliance, queuing, and turning behavior on neighborhood streets used for school drop-off and pick-up.
- Observe and note compliance with Branson's designated routes and restrictions, including prohibited turns, restricted streets, and posted speed limits, as outlined in the Transportation Handbook.
- Discourage unsafe driving (speeding, blocking driveways or intersections, double-parking, illegal U-turns) through visible presence, hand signals, and direct, courteous communication with drivers.
- Record and report the license plate, vehicle description, and nature of any repeated or serious violations to the Director of Operations for follow-up with the family, employee, or vendor involved.
- Flag recurring problem locations or times to Operations so patterns can be addressed proactively (e.g., staffing adjustments, signage, communication to families).
- Serve as a courteous, approachable presence for residents on neighborhood streets; greet neighbors and respond respectfully to questions or concerns raised in the moment.
- De-escalate tense interactions between drivers, pedestrians, and residents, and escalate unresolved concerns to the Director of Operations promptly.
- Represent Branson's commitment to being a good neighbor consistent with the goals of the CUP, TDMP, and Transportation Handbook.
- Relay neighbor feedback (e.g., recurring congestion, specific driver concerns, safety suggestions) to Operations staff for consideration.
- Arrive on time and staff the post for the full scheduled shift in all weather conditions.
- Wear the required uniform, high-visibility vest, and use an agency-approved stop paddle at all times while on duty.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of pedestrian right-of-way rules, basic traffic laws, and safe crossing practices.
- Strong observational skills and the ability to stay alert to surroundings and vehicles for extended periods.
- Ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and diplomatically with students, parents, drivers, and neighbors, including in tense moments.
- Good judgment and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfort documenting observations accurately (e.g., vehicle descriptions, times, locations) for reporting purposes.
- Reliability and punctuality; consistent attendance during the assigned arrival/dismissal windows.
- Ability to stand outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions.
- Near and distance vision sufficient to observe traffic and pedestrians at a distance.
- Ability to lift and control a stop paddle (approximately 5 lbs.) repeatedly, and to react quickly to avoid traffic hazards.
- Prior experience as a crossing guard, traffic monitor, or in a public-facing safety or customer-service role.
- Familiarity with the Ross neighborhood streets surrounding Branson's campus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
