Progress starts with you.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to help design and deliver key platform capabilities within Visa’s Intelligent Commerce ecosystem.This role focuses on building scalable backend services, APIs, and platform components that power merchant integrations and intelligent commerce experiences. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, and architects to develop high-quality solutions while contributing hands-on throughout the software development lifecycle.This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong software engineering fundamentals, system design experience, and a passion for building reliable, scalable systems.Essential Functions:Design and develop scalable backend services, APIs, and platform capabilities supporting Intelligent Commerce productsBuild cloud-native applications using modern microservices architecturesParticipate in technical design discussions and contribute to architecture decisions within your domainTranslate business and product requirements into robust technical implementationsDeliver high-quality software through coding, testing, debugging, and performance optimizationContribute to system reliability, scalability, observability, and operational excellenceSupport CI/CD pipelines and development productivity improvementsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutionsPerform code reviews and uphold engineering best practicesMentor junior engineers and contribute to technical skill development across the teamLeverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency and quality.Why This Role:Build innovative commerce platforms at global scaleWork on next-generation AI-powered commerce experiencesInfluence technical decisions while remaining deeply hands-onGrow into broader technical leadership opportunitiesVisa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.QualificationsBasic Qualifications:5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.Preferred Qualifications:5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.​8+ years of experience building scalable distributed systemsStrong proficiency in Java and/or PythonExperience with microservices, REST APIs, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CDKnowledge of cloud-native application developmentExperience designing and supporting production systemsExposure to AI-enabled systems, intelligent platforms, or large-scale commerce experiencesFamiliarity with React or Angular is a plusSkills You Bring:Strong software engineering and coding expertiseSolid system design and troubleshooting skillsAbility to deliver features independentlyStrong collaboration and communication skillsOwnership mindset and operational excellencePassion for mentoring peers and improving engineering practices.Information for US ApplicantsFor roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $131,600.00 to $ 210,300.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
