Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit Nurse

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced nurse to join our Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a pivotal role that involves providing exceptional care to patients with neurology and neurosurgery-related conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver patient-centered care in a 34-bed telemetry unit.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias, managing conditions effectively.
• Support interdisciplinary collaboration with IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and other specialties.
• Admit and care for patients with diagnoses including stroke, seizures, dementia, and neuromuscular disorders.
• Attend to neurosurgery patients recovering from surgeries related to head, neck, and back trauma.
• Manage care for ENT patients who have undergone radical neck surgery due to trauma or cancer.
• Engage in teamwork with rapid response and lift teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Previous charge experience preferred.
• Experience with EPIC charting system is mandatory.
• Knowledge of telemetry and management of dysrhythmias.
• BSN preferred, with a valid nursing license from Virginia or a compact state at the time of submission.
• Ability to float within scope of practice as needed.

Unit Details

• Daily census of approximately 30 patients.
• Predominantly caring for adult and geriatric populations.
• Unit handles a diverse range of surgical and medical patients, including those requiring stable ventilator management.

Patient Care Environment

The environment is dynamic and multidisciplinary, requiring nurses to adapt and collaborate effectively with various healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Special Requirements

• Candidates may be required to undergo fingerprinting as per state regulations for emergency and psychiatric roles.
• Orientation includes non-billable training modules averaging 6 hours, to be completed in conjunction with regular duties during the orientation week.
