WIC Nutrition Coordinator

Job Summary The WIC Nutrition Coordinator provides guidance and support to staff with daily clinical activities, ensuring the WIC Program operates in compliance with State and Federal requirements. The role coordinates the breastfeeding program, works with breastfeeding peer counselors, and collaborates with the WIC Director to oversee nutrition education activities and quality assurance (QA) plans. Core Responsibilities Provide leadership and support to all nutrition and breastfeeding staff. Assess clients’ nutritional and/or health risks, prescribe food packages, and develop nutritional care plans for high‑risk individuals. Deliver nutritional instruction in individual and group settings. Act as a Competent Professional (CPA) when needed, responsible for the certification and nutrition education of WIC participants. Coordinate nutritional care with other members of the health‑care team to ensure comprehensive medical and social services. Support the WIC Director in training staff and fulfilling Local Agency reporting requirements to DC Health. Maintain the Breastfeeding program, coordinate with peer counselors, and monitor breastfeeding activity. Keep abreast of current research findings in maternal and child health nutrition and incorporate them into program activities. Monitor training programs for WIC staff and intra‑agency clinic staff to address participant needs and ensure high quality of service. Assist with caseload management, enrollment tracking, participation metrics, compliance monitoring, and annual reporting. Advise on safety procedures, address unsafe behavior, and promote a safe environment for clients and staff. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field. Master’s degree in nutrition or a clinical/professional specialty for new graduates starting after 2024. At least two (2) years of job‑related experience in nutrition or a related field. Required Skills & Knowledge Management and supervisory experience with staff. Strong communication skills for delivering education and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of State and Federal requirements for the WIC Program. Ability to develop and evaluate nutrition education programs and policies. Licenses & Certifications Licensed in the District of Columbia as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Nutritionist (LN), or licensed in another state with proof of application for District of Columbia licensure. Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) is preferred; alternatively licensed or registered dietitian/nutritionist in the District of Columbia.
