Machine Builder / Tool Builder

Location: Novi, MI

Pay: $24.00-$26.00/hour (based on experience)

Position Type: Long-Term Contract with Opportunity for Direct Hire

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Machine Builder / Tool Builder to join a growing manufacturing team in Novi, MI. This position is ideal for someone with experience building and assembling machine tools who can work independently from mechanical prints with minimal supervision.The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, has their own tools, and is comfortable making on-the-job adjustments during equipment installation and assembly.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble machine tooling and manufacturing equipment from mechanical blueprints
• Interpret mechanical drawings, layouts, and bills of materials (BOM)
• Install floor plates, framing systems, tooling, and fencing
• Install sealer equipment, camera stations, light screens, and gate key systems
• Install upper cable trays and related mechanical components
• Assemble machine units and subassemblies
• Drill, tap, and ream holes as required
• Make modifications and adjustments to components, such as cutting Unistrut or altering brackets for proper fit
• Use precision measuring equipment, including an optical level
• Operate common shop equipment including:
• Bridgeport mill
• Lathe
• Surface grinder
• Drill press
• Hand saws
• Grinders
• Maintain a safe and organized work environment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous experience as a Machine Builder, Tool Builder, or Machine Tool Assembler
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and layouts
• Experience operating a Bridgeport mill
• Basic experience operating a lathe and surface grinder
• Ability to independently assemble machinery with minimal supervision
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to make field modifications and mechanical adjustments during assembly
• Experience drilling, tapping, and reaming holes
• Must provide and maintain your own hand tools
