Marketing & Communications Intern

Sonia's Faith in Action

The Marketing & Communications Intern will be the driving creative force behind SFIA's digital presence during a landmark season of growth. From managing our social media accounts to crafting newsletters and designing outreach materials, this intern will help amplify SFIA's mission, engage our community, and build the visibility needed to support fundraising and program growth.

This is a fully remote position. All work can be completed independently, with weekly check-ins and collaborative touchpoints via video call.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Manage and maintain SFIA's active social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and others as applicable)
  • Develop and execute a consistent weekly content calendar aligned with SFIA's programs, events, and campaigns
  • Create and schedule original posts including graphics, captions, and short-form video content
  • Monitor comments, messages, and engagement — respond to community interactions in a timely, brand-appropriate manner
  • Track performance metrics (reach, engagement, follower growth) and provide brief monthly summaries
  • Research trending content formats and hashtags relevant to the nonprofit and faith-based community space

Newsletter & Email Communications

  • Draft and distribute an e-newsletter to donors, partners, and community supporters
  • Write compelling program updates, impact stories, volunteer spotlights, and calls to action
  • Manage and grow the SFIA email subscriber list, ensuring content is audience-appropriate and mission-aligned
  • Assist with email campaigns tied to fundraising events, program launches, and the One-Year Anniversary celebration

Marketing Materials

  • Design flyers, digital graphics, and promotional materials for SFIA programs and events using Canva or similar tools
  • Create content for the One-Year Anniversary Event (October 17, 2026), including Save the Date graphics, program promotions, and sponsor recognition assets
  • Support development of a branded one-pager or media kit for donor and partner outreach
  • Maintain an organized library of SFIA brand assets, templates, and approved imagery for consistent use across materials

Brand & Storytelling

  • Help document and share the stories of the people SFIA serves — with appropriate consent — to bring the mission to life for donors and the public
  • Ensure all content reflects SFIA's voice: faith-forward, community-centered, warm, and authentic
  • Contribute ideas for campaigns, awareness moments, and community engagement tied to the nonprofit calendar

Who We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in social media strategy, digital communications, or content creation
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and voice for different audiences and platforms
  • Self-directed, reliable, and able to meet deadlines independently in a fully remote environment
  • Proficiency in Canva, Google Workspace, and at least one major social media platform (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Genuine passion for community service and nonprofit mission work

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience managing a social media account for an organization, club, or brand
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar
  • Basic photography, video editing, or graphic design skills
  • Prior experience volunteering or working with faith-based or community service organizations

What You'll Gain

  • A real portfolio of published work — social posts, newsletters, flyers, and marketing materials used by an active nonprofit
  • Experience building and managing a nonprofit communications strategy from the ground up
  • Mentorship from SFIA's founding leadership and connection to a growing community partner network
  • Flexible, fully remote schedule ideal for students balancing coursework or other commitments
  • A letter of recommendation and professional reference upon successful completion
  • Potential for college credit (intern is responsible for coordinating with their institution)
