Kitchen Chef/Staff

Overview The New Jersey 4‑H Camp, located in Stokes State Forest in Branchville, NJ, operates an 8‑week summer camp season from June 22nd to August 16th. Kitchen staff provide daily meals for 175 campers and 50 staff members at the L.G. Cook 4‑H Youth Center. The role requires managing a clean, effective, and friendly commercial kitchen in a rustic residential environment, ensuring consistent, nutritious meals that accommodate dietary needs and allergy restrictions while guiding volunteer assistants and maintaining schedules. Responsibilities Assist campers during emergencies (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and maintain constant supervision. Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment, including dishwashers and ovens. Determine cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces, and kitchen areas, and assess food condition. Identify and respond to environmental hazards and review prescriptions and health forms. Lift, unload, and move food and supplies to storage locations. Communicate effectively with staff and campers. Qualifications High school or vocational school education, or equivalent experience. Previous kitchen experience, including ordering food, overseeing and scheduling cooks. Preferred Qualifications ServSafe certification. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective communication with staff and campers. Desire and ability to work with children over an extended period of time. Certifications ServSafe certification (preferred).
