Starting Salary Range: $51,565-$65,000 (This is an hourly position and eligible for overtime) + Benefits

Position Summary

The Entry Writer / Import Specialist III is responsible for managing complex import transactions and ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant entry of international shipments into the United States. This position serves as a senior operational resource within the import team and works closely with customers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), government agencies, carriers, overseas offices, internal operations teams, and customs brokerage partners. The Senior entry writer independently handles complex customs entries, resolves shipment and documentation exceptions, supports regulatory compliance, monitors key operational metrics, and provides guidance and training to junior team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilites

• Prepare, review, and process complex U.S. Customs import entries accurately and within established service-level requirements.
• Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, airway bills, arrival notices, certificates, and other import documentation.
• Determine appropriate entry types and ensure required information is complete prior to submission.
• Monitor shipments from pre-arrival through customs clearance and final release.
• Coordinate with carriers, customers, overseas offices, terminals, and internal operations teams to facilitate timely cargo movement.
• Identify missing or inaccurate documentation and proactively obtain corrections.
• Monitor shipment status and communicate delays, holds, exams, or other exceptions to appropriate stakeholders.

• Serve as a senior operational point of contact for assigned customers and complex import accounts.

• Provide timely and professional communication regarding shipment status, clearance requirements, documentation needs, and exceptions.

• Research customer questions and provide accurate resolutions.

• Develop strong working relationships with customers and internal business partners.

• Proactively identify recurring customer or operational issues and recommend solutions.

• Assist with quality audits and identification of entry errors or process gaps.

• Participate in continuous-improvement initiatives.

• Help develop and maintain standard operating procedures and customer-specific work instructions.

• Support implementation and transition of new customer accounts.

• Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Eduation & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  
  
  

• 4-5+ years of import, customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or international logistics experience preferred.

• Advanced experience preparing and processing U.S. import entries.

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex import shipments and customer accounts.

• Experience researching and resolving customs entry discrepancies and operational exceptions.

• Knowledge of ocean and air import operations.

  Experience working within a high-volume customs brokerage or freight-forwarding environment.

  Experience supporting complex or high-profile customer accounts.
