Registered Nurse (RN) Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)

This position is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient before and during a surgical procedure and maintaining patient safety. The RN outlines individual care plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care of the patient during surgical procedures. Provides leadership to the OR team. Communicates with the patient and family, OR team, supervisor, manager, and ancillary departments. Participates in staff development through preceptorship and continuing education.

Responsibilities:

• Assess the needs of the surgical patient and develop a plan of care specific to that patient.
• Implement and evaluate the plan of care during the procedure and make necessary adjustments, keeping patient safety a priority.
• Supervise activity in the room.
• Anticipate and coordinate any schedule changes for the room.
• Assemble equipment and supplies.
• Assist anesthesia as necessary.
• Monitor the sterile field.
• Communicate with the patient, family, physician, OR team, supervisor, manager, and ancillary departments.
• Participate in staff development by attending in-services, educational meetings, staff meetings, and other meetings or seminars for educational opportunities and leadership growth.

Call is required on all days worked and weekends. Weekend call is very infrequent.
