Job Description

The Registered Oncology Nurse provides quality cancer care by assessing and monitoring patients, formulating a nursing diagnosis and prioritizing problems. Engages the patient in mutual goal setting and developing a plan of care in collaboration with the physician and other members of the health care team.

Desired/Required Qualifications

Education:

• Licensed RN in the State of Michigan.
• Successful completion of competency based orientation program and chemotherapy certificate.
• ONS Chemo & Biotherapy Provider Card
• CPR certification or acquisition within 90 days of employment.

Experience:

• Minimum of 1-year medical/surgical (preferably oncology).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Assesses and monitors the overall needs of patients and significant others.
• Develops and maintains an individualized plan of care with the patient and significant others.
• Initiates follow-up care in community and home. Gives chemotherapy according to ONS and OSHA guidelines.
• Provides research based nursing care in cooperation with physicians, research team and community and national research standards.
• Evaluates patients and significant others needs for education and develops and implements appropriate teaching strategies.
• Documents nursing care and teaching consistent with documentation guidelines.
• Maintains communication with other health team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services. Acts as patient/significant others advocate.
• Assumes a leadership role and delegates appropriately to support staff to facilitate safe, efficient and quality patient care.
• Documents patient chargeable services and items used.
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in oncology by reading, attending conferences, seminars, etc.
• May be pulled to work at other CHC sites based on clinic and patient needs.
• All other duties as assigned.
