Substitute Mechanic 8 Hours - Days Will Vary 6:30 AM - 4:15 PM Qualifications: 1. Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program in automotive repair and two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of gasoline, diesel and alternative powered vehicles and equipment. 2. Diagnose, repair and maintain a wide variety of large and small gasoline and diesel engines and battery-powered engines. 3. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions. 4. Operate specialized equipment, hand and power tools used in repairing or servicing of vehicles, read and apply technical and mechanical diagrams, schematics and repair manuals. 5. Interpret and apply CHP and other requirements for maintenance of District vehicles. 6. Maintain records related to safety, preventative maintenance and work performed. 7. Understand and follow oral and written directions. 8. Work cooperatively with others. 9. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. 10. Observe health and safety regulations.
