RN Supervisor (New York State Veterans Home at St. Albans - Jamaica, NY) We are seeking an experienced RN Supervisor to provide leadership and oversight for nursing and direct care staff at a New York State Veterans Homes, located at St. Albans (Queens), NY. About NYS Veterans Homes New York State Veterans Homes are skilled nursing facilities operated by the New York State Department of Health for veterans and their dependents. The Department of Health operates four Veterans Homes across the state, including the St. Albans facility. Responsibilities Ensure regulatory compliance with state and federal laws, CMS regulations, and facility policies related to restraints, seclusion, intensive supervision, abuse prevention, and incident reporting. Develop, implement, and monitor corrective action plans for identified regulatory deficiencies. Demonstrate leadership and manage nursing staff with confidence and professionalism. Maintain knowledge of DOH, CMS, and federal regulations, survey processes, and requirements. Oversee admissions, clinical assessment, documentation, care planning, GG (Minimum Data Set) assessments, and reporting to the Department of Health. Ensure compliance with NYS Department of Health (DOH) and Federal CMS regulations; maintain survey readiness and prevent deficiencies related to documentation, infection control, and medication management. Supervise and coordinate nursing and direct care staff; review work, conduct performance evaluations, and provide counseling or disciplinary action as needed. Develop staffing plans and schedules ensuring adequate nursing coverage. Identify staff development needs, arrange for training on clinical nursing topics, and evaluate in‑service education effectiveness. Ensure staff meet first aid, CPR, and other agency‑specific training requirements. Participate in recruitment, interviewing, orientation, and hiring activities. Supervise admission and discharge planning; liaison with community providers, families, hospitals, and other facilities. Maintain nursing care standards in accordance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements. Conduct rounds to ensure a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment and to meet residents’ safety and well‑being needs. Communicate and enforce policies, procedures, and current nursing practice trends. Review nursing documentation for accuracy and quality; follow up with staff to resolve discrepancies. Assist with the development and implementation of quality control programs. Oversee narcotics tracking and management; ensure proper storage of medication inventories. Assist with budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, and committee/workgroup participation. Perform duties of an RN as needed to cover staff assignments. Ensure proper medication administration practices; investigate and report medication errors. Supervise RNs, LPNs, and CNAs and ensure proper coverage and staffing. Assign duties, provide guidance, coaching, and support; address performance issues and policy violations. Manage callouts, shift coverage, and overtime needs; reassign staff based on acuity. Ensure accurate and timely documentation, review nursing notes, incident reports, and care plans. Oversee admission assessments, physician notifications, orders, and care plan initiation. Enforce infection prevention protocols and educate staff on PPE use, hand hygiene, and cohorting. Ensure incidents are reported immediately, investigated, and documented; follow up on falls, abuse allegations, and neglect. Verify staff attendance and productivity; address tardiness and absenteeism promptly. Ensure staff complete in‑services and competencies; participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI). Qualifications RN license in the State of New York. Previous experience as an RN supervisor or manager. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
