Lead Advanced Practice Professional – Stanford Health Care A new role focused on supervising and managing a team of advanced practice providers (APPs) within a distinct clinical service line. The position includes clinical direction, education, hiring, termination, and professional growth for APPs, operating under the general Nurse Practitioner (NP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), or Physician Assistant (PA) Job Description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). Responsibilities The essential functions are grouped into three categories: Clinical Oversight and Leadership Co‑direct clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives with the Medical Director and unit nursing management team. Conduct regular meetings with staff APPs. Ensure clinical competency and policy adherence through practice analysis and case review with physicians. Investigate patient/family complaints and address concerns. Orient and provide education to new staff APPs. Represent the service line on hospital‑wide, professional, and evaluation committees. Ensure completion of operational mandates and initiatives (e.g., C‑I‑CARE rounds). Administration Review and participate in financial planning for the service. Hire, evaluate, coach, mentor, and discipline staff APPs. Investigate and resolve operational issues. Coordinate quality improvement and process improvement programs. Provide 24‑hour on‑call administrative coverage. Coordinate APP scheduling. Other duties as assigned. Internal and External Legal/Regulatory Issues Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Services initiatives, policies, and procedures. Advocate for practice models that allow clinicians to practice to the fullest extent of their scope. Participate in regional and national discussions affecting APP practice. Collaborate with hospital operations on funding, billing, and reimbursement models. Engage in legislative and health policy issues impacting advanced practice. Supervise a minimum of 10 APPs. Education and Qualifications Education Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing or another healthcare‑related field from an accredited university. OR a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Physician Assistant Studies, or a related field from an accredited university (for Physician Assistant). Experience Minimum of one year of experience as a licensed advanced practice provider (PA, NP, CNS, or CRNA). Management experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Management principles and practices (hiring, evaluation, counseling, termination, budgeting, employee recognition). Practice evaluation, process improvement, and national professional initiatives. Standards of care for APP roles. Clinical competence and in‑depth specialty knowledge. Knowledge of trauma services operations for quality care delivery. Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to build effective relationships with diverse groups. Time‑management and independent planning skills. Evidence‑based practice and research utilization. Educational strategies for staff development. Process improvement facilitation. Institution‑wide initiative contribution. Licenses and Certifications Physician Assistant: State licensure or RN state/compact licensure. Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist: State licensure.
