Vice President for Human Resources

The Research Foundation for SUNY is seeking an exceptional Vice President of Human Resources to lead one of the most dynamic and impactful HR organizations in higher education research. This is not a traditional HR leadership role. We're looking for a strategic HR practitioner who has experienced the entire employee lifecycle from recruitment through retirement and understands how each stage contributes to building an engaged, high-performing workforce. Whether your expertise has been in talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, organizational development, HR operations, compliance, or another area of Human Resources, you've successfully led across the full spectrum while developing deep expertise in one or more disciplines. Success in this role requires far more than HR knowledge. It requires curiosity, agility, and the ability to transform ambitious ideas into practical solutions. You'll partner with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, SUNY System Administration, campus leadership, faculty, students, and colleagues across the SUNY system to advance a people strategy that supports one of the nation's largest research enterprises. You thrive in complex, highly regulated environments where balancing innovation with compliance is second nature. You know how to build trust among diverse stakeholders, navigate competing priorities, and deliver exceptional customer service to every audience you serve. We're looking for a leader who: Thinks strategically while executing operationally. Has broad, hands-on HR leadership experience across the entire employee lifecycle. Brings recognized expertise in one or more core HR disciplines. Builds meaningful partnerships with executives, governing boards, and diverse stakeholders. Has experience serving as a liaison to a Board of Directors and supporting board development and governance activities. Excels in highly compliant, mission-driven organizations. Can influence without authority, lead through change, and inspire high-performing teams. Sees possibility where others see obstacles.
