Director of Communications

Every City project, service, and milestone has a story. We are looking for a creative, strategic communications leader who can bring those stories to life—and help our community understand the decisions and opportunities shaping Powell's future.

As Director of Communications, you will collaborate with staff across the organization. You will lead the City's communications program, serve as a spokesperson, and turn complex information into clear, compelling messages. With a team supporting your work, you will have the opportunity to shape both the strategy and the storytelling.

What You Will Do

• Lead a coordinated communications strategy that informs residents, builds trust, and strengthens the City's brand.
• Find and share compelling stories about City projects, services, employees, and community accomplishments.
• Manage media relations and crisis communications; prepare City leaders for interviews, presentations, and public statements.
• Create and guide content across the City website, social media, newsletters, news releases, and marketing materials.
• Supervise the Community Engagement Specialist and coordinate consultants, vendors, and creative specialists.
• Build relationships across City departments and the community; use feedback and analytics to improve communications.

What You Bring

• A bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field, and three to five years of progressively responsible public relations experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex topics understandable and engaging.
• Sound judgment, confidence as a spokesperson, and a collaborative approach to sensitive issues and competing priorities.
• Experience with digital communications, branding, and media relations; a valid Ohio driver's license and vehicle insurance.
