Overview:

This role leads complex construction projects while coaching Project Managers, promoting consistent project execution, and providing tactical leadership that allows Project Executives to focus on strategic priorities.

Project Leadership

• Manage assigned construction projects from preconstruction through closeout while maintaining accountability for safety, quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.
• Lead complex or high-risk projects while serving as an operational resource for other Project Managers.
• Review project performance to identify operational risks, schedule concerns, budget trends, and documentation gaps before escalation is required.
• Support project recovery planning and corrective action efforts when projects begin trending off target.
• Promote consistent execution of company project management standards across all assigned teams.

Project Manager Development

• Lead the onboarding and operational training of newly hired and newly promoted Project Managers.
• Provide ongoing coaching in company systems, project management processes, financial management, documentation standards, scheduling, procurement, change management, and client communication.
• Conduct routine one-on-one development meetings to improve Project Manager performance and confidence.
• Review project documentation and provide coaching before Project Executive involvement when appropriate.
• Partner with Operations and Human Resources to support Project Manager development and succession planning.

Operational Oversight

• Monitor project health through routine reviews of schedules, budgets, procurement activities, documentation, and project execution.
• Ensure RFIs, submittals, change orders, buyout activities, and closeout documentation continue progressing in accordance with company expectations.
• Identify operational risks early and coordinate timely resolution with Project Managers.
• Promote accountability, consistency, and operational excellence across multiple project teams.
• Recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, reduce risk, and standardize project execution.

Tactical Support & Escalation Management

• Serve as the primary operational resource for Project Managers requiring day-to-day guidance or project support.
• Coordinate responses to routine project issues involving subcontractors, suppliers, scheduling, procurement, documentation, and client communication.
• Resolve operational challenges whenever appropriate before Project Executive involvement becomes necessary.
• Escalate strategic, contractual, financial, legal, compliance, or significant client relationship issues to the Project Executive.

Client & Financial Support

• Coordinate routine client communication and provide timely follow-up regarding project activities.
• Review project financial performance through routine budget health reviews and forecasting discussions.
• Assist Project Managers in identifying cost trends, schedule impacts, and operational risks.
• Support Project Executives by providing accurate project reporting and maintaining visibility into overall project health.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 8+ years of commercial construction project management experience, including leadership of complex projects.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop Project Managers.
• Strong knowledge of project financial management, scheduling, procurement, contracts, and risk management.
• Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
• Experience with RedTeam, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project.
• Professional certifications related to construction or project management.
• OSHA 30 certification required; PMP certification or other construction/project management certification preferred.

Field personnel on construction project teams should expect 60-hour workweeks, with a minimum of 5 days a week and 8 hours per day, including weekends. Travel home is typically every week, but can shift to every third week depending on project needs. During the final month and a half of a project, it's common to remain on-site and take extra time off after completion.

• Fine motor skills: Regular use of hands for typing, operating a computer, handling documents, and using office equipment.
• Repetitive motions: Frequent reaching, keyboarding, and arm movements while working at a computer, using a phone, and participating in meetings.
• Standing and walking: Standing, walking, and navigating active construction sites, including uneven terrain, stairs, and ladders, during project visits.
• Travel: Regular travel to project sites and company locations, including extended periods of driving and occasional overnight travel.
• Occasional lifting: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Important Details:

This role requires weekly travel to active job sites, with a minimum expectation of one site visit per week. Additional visits may be necessary based on project needs, incident response, or strategic planning initiatives.

Requires extensive nationwide travel based on project assignments. The primary work location is active project sites and remote work locations, with occasional travel to company offices for meetings, training, or business needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Senior Project Manager directs project staff and manages subcontractors to ensure effective coordination, strong performance, and adherence to safety and quality expectations.
