Advanced RN Surgical Services Educator

General Summary

The Surgical Services Educator is a seasoned Registered Nurse responsible for leading performance improvement initiatives and providing comprehensive education to staff and students. This role supports various departments including the Operating Room, Endoscopy, Pre-Op, PACU, Pain Management, Ambulatory Surgery Unit, and Sterile Processing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee individualized orientation and education plans, ensuring adherence to state, federal, Joint Commission, and specialty accreditation standards.
• Collaborate with department managers to enhance orientation processes and implement action plans based on clinical assessment tools.
• Maintain and update educational content and equipment procedures in partnership with vendors and evidence-based practices.
• Coordinate student rotations and shadowing experiences in collaboration with instructors and regional educational centers to ensure comprehensive clinical exposure.
• Ensure compliance with annual competencies, certifications, and licensure requirements tailored to departmental needs.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives by analyzing data and reporting findings to multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons and directors.
• Step into clinical roles during staffing shortages to maintain skill proficiency and support team effectiveness.
• Foster a culture of teamwork and accountability by adapting positively to change and supporting the organization's mission.

Education

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program is required. A Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

Applicants should have at least five years of acute care nursing experience and a minimum of two years in perioperative nursing.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in a Compact State or equivalent.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) credential is preferred.

Mental and Physical Demands

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions
