The Department of Social Services (DSS) of New York City supports communities across the five boroughs. Within DSS, HRA’s Office of Police Operations (OPO) protects the safety of staff, clients, and facilities. The Supervising Special Officer (Sergeant) will oversee security operations for HRA locations throughout New York City, directing peace officers, supervising contracted guards, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Responsibilities Guide and supervise the physical safety of staff and clients at all HRA locations. Ensure the highest level of security at assigned HRA sites, prepare schedules, and manage guard assignments. Monitor guard activities on an ongoing basis and evaluate their performance. Investigate security incidents, prepare reports, and develop corrective actions. Hours/Shift: Various Minimum Qualifications A four‑year high school diploma (or equivalent) and one year of full‑time experience in law enforcement, protection, or security. Qualified to serve as a Peace Officer under New York State law; must satisfy state training requirements, obtain and maintain certification. For Assignment Level II: one year experience as a Supervising Special Officer‑Level I, or one year supervisory experience in the field. For Assignment Level III: two years experience as a Supervising Special Officer, or two additional years full‑time experience with at least one year in supervisory or administrative capacity.
