The Defiance and Zuckerman Lathe Setup Operator is responsible for performing a wide range of duties related to sharpening, shaping, and maintaining cutting tools, cams, and knives used in production. This role ensures optimal production rates while maintaining high standards of quality and smooth finishes. The position requires general knowledge of various trades, adherence to established procedures, and decision-making within established guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sharpen cutting tools and shape cams and knives according to specified patterns.
• Set knives and cams on machines to achieve the desired size, shape, and finish.
• Make necessary machine adjustments to ensure proper feed and size maintenance.
• Perform routine measurements and report results to quality control.
• Tear down various shop machines for repairs, diagnose issues, and replace parts as needed.
• Maintain proper working condition of shop electrical equipment, including wiring, motors, starters, switches, and panel boards.
• Ensure adherence to quality standards.
• Meets various hourly production goals
• Maintains a clean work area
• Actively ensures that all safety requirements and procedures are met at all times
• Other duties and project work as assigned by supervisors

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Attention to detail, communication, and maintaining quality while meeting production requirements are essential skills
• Experience in using standard methods and procedures for tool sharpening and machine adjustments.
• Must be able to use standard hand tools, air tools, and power tools
• Familiarity with electrical equipment maintenance and repair.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to calculate, reason, problem solve, and read and write in English
• Frequent standing, walking, gripping, and reaching as well as occasional bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and reaching above shoulder level
• Lifting up to 40 lbs without assistance
