Business Data Analyst New York, NY Hybrid 3 days per week onsite 6 month contract About the Role Our client, a well-established insurance organization, is seeking a senior Business Analyst with strong systems analyst capabilities to support a major data migration initiative tied to an internal billing platform. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role within a lean, fast-moving team where employees are expected to roll up their sleeves and drive outcomes independently. The primary focus is migrating and mapping data from legacy and Excel-based processes into a newly launched production platform, spanning roughly two dozen billing programs. You'll act as the internal counterpart to a technical vendor partner, bridging business needs, functional requirements, data mapping, and user acceptance testing. What You'll Do Perform field-to-field data mapping from legacy system structures into a new platform's schema, including documenting field definitions and required transformations Gather and document functional requirements and acceptance criteria for platform enhancements Facilitate user acceptance testing with business stakeholders (a separate QA team builds and executes test scripts) Use Excel for mapping exercises, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and formula-driven field calculations Collaborate with data analytics and reporting teams on how data flows between systems and feeds into reporting environments Partner directly with senior stakeholders, including director and executive-level leadership What We're Looking For 10+ years of business analysis experience, ideally with systems analyst range in a data-heavy environment Strong understanding of data migration concepts: field mapping, schema reading, and how data moves between systems Comfort with SQL-adjacent concepts, ETL processes, and reporting/data warehouse environments (hands-on SQL development not required) Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) strongly preferred; Jira or similar tools acceptable if you understand PBIs, acceptance criteria, and test-case traceability Solid Excel skills, including formulas used to derive field values during data mapping Experience creating mockups, swim lanes, and process documentation A go-getter mentality: coachable, execution-oriented, and comfortable working with minimal oversight Confidence presenting to and working alongside senior and executive stakeholders Equal Opportunity Employer We champion equality and inclusivity, proudly supporting an Equal Opportunity Employer policy.
