Position Summary

The Senior Underwriter will lead the evaluation of loan and insurance requests, develop underwriting policies, and mentor junior team members. This role balances analytical rigor with collaborative communication to protect the firm’s risk exposure and support profitable growth.

Day‑to‑Day Duties

• Review and assess loan applications, insurance policies, and credit proposals for risk and compliance.
• Analyze financial statements, credit reports, collateral documents, and market data to determine underwriting decisions.
• Draft clear underwriting reports and communicate decisions to sales, risk, legal, and clients.
• Maintain and update underwriting guidelines in line with regulatory changes and company risk appetite.
• Monitor existing portfolios, identify emerging risks, and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to structure complex transactions and negotiate terms.
• Provide mentorship and training to junior underwriters; lead continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Must‑Haves (Essential Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
• Professional underwriting certification (e.g., CPCU, ARM) preferred.
• 5+ years of underwriting experience in commercial lending, insurance, or credit risk.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency with underwriting software, Microsoft Excel, and financial analysis tools.
• High ethical standards and a demonstrated commitment to regulatory compliance.

• Experience managing high‑value or high‑risk portfolios.
• Negotiation experience with borrowers, brokers, or agents.
• Track record of implementing underwriting policies that improve loss ratios.
