Purpose

Operates basic saw types such as pop-up, miter, web saws, etc. to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Reviews work order to determine cut(s) to be made.
• Adjusts saw for required cuts.
• Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls.
• Observes automatic feeding of lumber to saw or pushes end of lumber into feed rolls.
• Stacks cut lumber after processing.
• Advises supervisor of dull saw blades.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to read at tape measure at 1/16 inch. Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Other Skills and Abilities - Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber.

Work Environment / Physical Activity

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee is occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
