Assistant Athletics Director, Sports Medicine (ATH TRAINER 3)

Job Summary Under general supervision of the Associate Athletics Director, Sports Medicine and team physicians, the Athletic Trainer will use expertise in athletic training to deliver customized injury prevention, management, rehabilitation, and performance optimization services. The role requires sound judgment in selecting and applying methods to obtain results, administering first aid to athletes, providing manual therapy for orthopedic and sports medicine conditions, coordinating comprehensive medical care for UC Davis intercollegiate student‑athletes, and communicating athlete progress to coaches, physicians, strength and conditioning staff, and supervisors. The position also attends annual team meetings to communicate education and policy related to concussion, sickle cell trait, supplement use, NCAA drug testing, ADHD, HIPAA, and trauma training, and initiates expectations meetings with coaching staff to review emergency action plans, policies and procedures, and other pertinent information. Key Responsibilities Patient care – 75% Administrative duties – 25% Minimum Qualifications In good standing with the Board of Certification. National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification. Certified Athletic Trainer. Current CPR/AED for the professional rescuer certification. Bachelor’s degree in an athletic training related field. No minimum work experience required. Strong skills in injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, rehabilitation techniques, first‑aid, athletic equipment, and injury assessment and treatment. Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine. Strong ability to organize, prioritize work assignments, and complete assignments within required timelines. Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the department, university, affiliated athletic conferences, the NCAA, and other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and an ability to avoid violations. Strong collaborative skills with athletes, team physicians, faculty, staff, and others, along with excellent verbal and written communication for clear business correspondence and reports. Ability to teach clinical rehabilitative skills to undergraduate sports medicine interns. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or higher in an athletic training related field. 3 years of experience or 2 years of experience at Division I level. Position Information Salary range: $69,600 annually – $124,200 annually; departmental budgeted range: $75,000 annually – $90,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
