About the role

PhoenixAI is looking for an experienced Field Marketing Manager to own our in-person event programs end-to-end. This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who has already managed high-stakes events at a tech startup - ideally in the data, infrastructure, or SaaS space - and understands how to allocate resources, manage vendors, and drive measurable outcomes.

Events are a key growth channel for PhoenixAI. The current program includes a monthly technical meetup (in the Bay Area and other U.S. cities), quarterly executive receptions for key customers, and a presence at major industry conferences such as AWS re:Invent. Our events motion is anchored in the StarRocks open-source community, and this role works closely with DevRel and Community to turn that community into a recurring, high-quality in-person program. This person will define clear goals for each program, execute flawlessly, and report results back to the business.

What you'll do

The Field Marketing Manager will own the full lifecycle of PhoenixAI's in-person events - strategy, budget, execution, and reporting - working cross-functionally to bring the right people and content into each program.

• Take full ownership of meetups, conferences, customer receptions, and partner programs from concept to close-out.
• Build and run a monthly technical meetup program in the Bay Area and other cities, drawing speakers and co-hosts from the StarRocks community, customers, and partners, in close coordination with DevRel.
• Plan and host quarterly executive receptions for key customers in partnership with Sales and Customer Success, focused on relationship depth, expansion, and advocacy.
• Lead PhoenixAI's presence at major industry conferences and partner events (e.g., AWS re:Invent) - sponsorship selection, booth, speaking opportunities, and on-site execution.
• Leverage the open-source data ecosystem - community members, other project communities, local meetup organizers - to source speakers, co-hosts, and venues for our events.
• Define the specific objective for each event before it happens - e.g., lead generation, pipeline influence, brand awareness, or customer engagement - and design the event and its metrics around that goal.
• Handle venue selection, sponsorship arrangements, vendor relationships, catering, booth setup, signage, promotional items, shipping, and travel logistics.
• Develop event schedules and keep colleagues, speakers, partners, and vendors aligned and on track.
• Produce landing pages, invites, social content, email outreach, and other materials to promote events.
• Work with speakers on presentations, demos, and run-of-show planning.
• Bring in internal technical resources - such as Product Management, Solutions Architects, and Engineering - to support event content and demos where needed.
• Partner with Sales ahead of each event to define target accounts, meeting objectives, and follow-up plans.
• Make sure leads gathered at events are logged accurately and passed along to Sales without delay.
• Capture and repurpose event content - recordings, photos, speaker decks - with the content and social teams.
• Coordinate with the team that owns webinars to align calendars and cross-promote where in-person and virtual programs overlap.
• Track and report on performance against the stated goal for each event (MQLs/SQLs generated, pipeline influence, awareness metrics, community growth, customer engagement, or similar).
• Keep an up-to-date calendar of upcoming conferences, sponsorship options, and community gatherings.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of field or event marketing experience at a fast-growing tech startup, ideally in the data, infrastructure, or SaaS space.
• Proven experience organizing events for an open-source or developer community - running meetups, community days, contributor gatherings, or community tracks at conferences. This is required.
• An existing network in the open-source data ecosystem (e.g., StarRocks, Apache projects, Linux Foundation events, or the broader data engineering community) that you can draw on for speakers, co-hosts, and venues is strongly preferred.
• Track record of running events end-to-end in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment, from large conference sponsorships to small executive hospitality events.
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with internal technical stakeholders such as Solutions Architects, Product Managers, and DevRel.
• Strong vendor and budget management skills.
• Familiarity with event and community tooling (e.g., Luma, Bevy, Splash) and marketing automation / CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce).
• Comfortable engaging with technical speakers, partners, prospective customers, sales, and executive leadership.
• Willingness to travel for events and work evenings/weekends as needed around event schedules.
• Must currently be based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

The base salary for this role is projected at $150,000 - $200,000, plus eligibility for PhoenixAI's bonus and equity programs. Individual compensation will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
