Evening Custodian

CustodianThe custodian is responsible to the Building Administration, Director of Maintenance, and Assistant Superintendent for Business. The qualifications include being clean, neat, and professional, possessing the initiative to work without immediate supervision, effective communication skills, and the ability to lift at least 75 pounds. The general responsibilities involve maintaining school facilities that are clean, attractive, and safe for all who enter, and providing students with a comfortable, healthy, and efficient place to learn, play, and develop.Specific duties include reporting directly to the Head Custodian, setting up tables, chairs, and other articles for various events, replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, knowing the location and proper use of all fire and safety equipment, cleaning tools and equipment, receiving deliveries and storing items, keeping the building and premises neat and clean, regulating heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, shoveling, plowing, and sanding walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, checking exit doors and panic bolts, raising and lowering the United States flag, sweeping classrooms, cleaning corridors, scrubbing and disinfecting toilet floors, washing windows, keeping the grounds free from rubbish, performing yardkeeping chores, keeping floors clean, cleaning chalkboards and erasers, making minor building repairs, maintaining mechanical equipment, reporting damage to school property, remaining on school premises during authorized nonschool hours, opening and closing the building, keeping an inventory of supplies, conducting ongoing maintenance, moving furniture or equipment, cleaning trash cans, complying with local laws for waste disposal, inspecting electrical installations, assisting on other jobs, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing floors, shampooing carpets, painting, replacing ceiling and floor tiles, keeping up-to-date inspections on boilers, playground equipment, fire extinguishers, and emergency lighting, assisting in summer maintenance and cleaning, and complying with all local, city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
