The selected candidate will provide paralegal assistance to attorneys in the Economic Justice Section with an emphasis in providing investigation and litigation support.The Economic Justice Section includes the Department of Justice’s antitrust, false claims, privacy, and consumer protection teams. The Section investigates and civilly prosecutes violations of the Unlawful Trade Practices Act, the Oregon Antitrust Law, the Oregon False Claims Act, and the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act. In addition to deterring, stopping and punishing unlawful conduct, the section educates consumers and businesses about their rights and obligations under these laws, operates a Consumer Protection Hotline, and helps consumers and businesses informally resolve disputes. If selected, we’ll ensure you are paid well and equitably to your peers, make work-life balance attainable, and show you the door to professional development and job satisfaction.**What You Will Do***Paralegals are primarily responsible for specifically delegated legal work which, for the most part, would otherwise have to be performed by an attorney.* You’ll be entrusted and expected to (in part):* Independently track case progress and perform other case file management and organization duties such as updating case file logs and deadlines. Communicate effectively with other legal staff to coordinate support for attorney over the course of the case.* Review and research state and federal statutes, case law, and legislative histories using online legal research services including Westlaw.* Maintain active PACER and multi-jurisdictional state court e-filing accounts, ensuring seamless digital document submission and noticing compliance.* Collect, upload, track, and organize large data sets into eDiscovery review platforms. Design and maintain searchable document repositories by formulating keyword search set up, user security permissions, and manage metadata integrity to preserve electronically stored information (“ESI”). Produce large-scale data sets in response to requests for production and subpoena. Review and code discovery materials including both electronic and hard copy materials.* Provide legal and administrative support for trial by organizing case evidence, managing witness schedules, and preparing trial binders and exhibits.* Identify key data custodians and issue litigation holds.* Analyze pleadings and correspondences (e.g., answers, cross claims, settlement proposals); draft responses or help prepare necessary pleadings (e.g., motions and orders, complaints/answers, briefs, judgments, stipulations, covenants, other legal memoranda).* Edit, format, and proofread legal documents. (e.g. Civil Investigative Demands, Assurances of Voluntary Compliance, and pleadings including complaints, affidavits, responses, briefs, and judgments).**Required Experience****Research suggests that women and people of color are less likely to apply unless they are confident they meet 100% of the listed qualifications.
