Systems Engineer (Tech Transfer)

Transmission Engineer III Pomona, CA (Hybrid – Onsite Wednesday/Thursday) Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am‑5pm or 7am‑4pm Duration: 6‑Month Contract Pay: $43‑48/hr (W2) Our client is a major utility company serving Southern California. They are seeking an experienced engineer to lead technology integration, standards development, and knowledge transfer activities across their transmission and distribution systems. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to shape engineering standards and facilitate the deployment of new technologies system‑wide. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Technology Integration & Evaluation Lead the integration of new technologies (pre‑commercial or commercial equipment new to the system) into operations Assess pilot projects against success criteria and determine readiness for system‑wide deployment Facilitate technology transfer for new equipment and systems Standards Development & Governance Develop, update, and maintain engineering standards to support new technologies and evolving compliance requirements Ensure alignment with regulatory mandates, risk mitigation strategies, and corporate objectives Manage standards change requests through all phases of the Standards Process Own and manage standard content and updates across transmission, distribution, and substation standards Stakeholder Coordination Collaborate with key stakeholders including Project Leads, Subject Matter Experts, Substation Construction & Maintenance, Operations, and Training Teams Facilitate communication and engagement throughout all phases of technology transition Act as the face of Asset Strategy & Planning with other organizational units Training & Knowledge Transfer Partner with Technology Integration and Training teams to develop training plans for end‑users Ensure updates to operating manuals, maintenance procedures, and compatible units are completed before deployment Develop and deliver standards updates and facilitate Q&A sessions Post-Deployment Activities Define asset ownership and responsibilities (e.g., Infrastructure Replacement Sponsor, Equipment Maintenance) Oversee SAP and Master Data integration for new technologies Process & Documentation Management Maintain documentation and ensure procedural compliance for technology transfer and standards updates Update substation standards drawings using AutoCAD Conduct impact assessments for new standards and technology adoption, including operational, safety, and training implications Evaluate QA/QC findings and assess operational impacts Identify gaps and feed insights back to strategy teams for roadmap updates Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5 years of related experience Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred Knowledge and Skills Technical Skills Deep understanding of transmission, distribution, and substation standards Familiarity with CPUC General Orders, NERC requirements, and compliance frameworks Ability to interpret engineering principles and evaluate implications of standards changes (e.g., conductor tension tables, clearance, structural loads) Working knowledge of tools impacted by standards updates (AUD/DM, SPIDA pole loading) Proficiency with AutoCAD for substation standards drawing updates Advanced knowledge of power systems and regulatory compliance Strategic & Analytical Skills Awareness of Asset Strategy & Planning roadmaps to ensure standards updates align with organizational goals Skilled in risk assessment and cost‑benefit analysis Ability to evaluate operational impacts and identify gaps for continuous improvement Strong problem‑solving methodology Ability to lead technology pilots and coordinate stakeholder engagement Experience managing transition to long‑term business processes Capability to engage in industry forums (e.g., NEETRAC) Soft Skills Strong collaboration abilities to work effectively with SMEs, planners, and field personnel Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills Adaptability to manage complex tasks across multiple standards and disciplines in a dynamic environment Ability to work in an inter‑departmental team environment Ability to influence decisions and coordinate across cross‑functional teams #J-18808-Ljbffr Hydrogen Group
