Senior Vice President of Human Resources

This role develops and executes human capital strategies that attract, develop, engage, and retain exceptional talent while fostering a high-performing, mission-driven culture aligned with the organization's mission, values, and strategic priorities. The SVP of HR oversees talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, leadership development, organizational development, culture and values training, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance. Working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team and organizational leaders, the SVP of HR strengthens leadership capacity, advances employee development, and cultivates a workplace culture that enables employees and the organization to thrive. The Sr. VP of HR should have the heart of a servant in accordance with Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Key Tasks And Responsibilities Supports the CEO in executing and operationalizing the Board-approved strategic vision and plan. Develop and implement a comprehensive human resources strategy that aligns with the organization's mission, values, strategic priorities, and long-term workforce needs. Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all human resources functions, ensuring exceptional service, effective processes, and continuous improvement. Lead workforce planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract, develop, and retain high-performing employees. Design, implement, and oversee leadership development initiatives that strengthen leadership effectiveness, prepare future leaders, and support succession planning across the organization. Lead organizational development efforts that enhance employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, change management, team performance, and a culture of continuous learning. Develop and facilitate culture and values training that reinforces the organization's mission, core values, leadership expectations, and desired workplace behaviors. Oversee employee performance management processes that promote accountability, professional growth, coaching, and continuous feedback. Provide guidance and leadership in employee relations, conflict resolution, workplace investigations, corrective action, and performance improvement while fostering a respectful and positive work environment. Design and administer competitive compensation, benefits, recognition, and total rewards programs that support employee well-being and organizational objectives. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and organizational policies while proactively identifying and mitigating employment-related risks. Develop, analyze, and report findings regularly to the CEO monthly HR Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics and workforce analytics to evaluate organizational health, measure the effectiveness of people initiatives, and inform strategic decision-making. Partner with the Senior Leadership Team and organizational leaders to build leadership capacity, strengthen teams, and cultivate a high-performing, mission-driven organizational culture. Other Duties Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Attend quarterly All Staff meetings. Job performance should demonstrate The Rescue Mission’s Core Values; Organizational Integrity, Organizational Unity and Organizational Effectiveness. Be prepared to pray with and offer spiritual support to others. Supervisory Responsibilities Maintain department staff by collaborating with HR to recruit, select, orient and train employees; maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment and develop employee growth opportunities. Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and correcting employees; coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards. Education Training And Experience Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. 10 years of Human Resources experience with 5 years in a management role. 5 years of senior leadership level experience working within a corporate or nonprofit sector preferred. Knowledge Skills And Abilities Deep understanding of all aspects of HR including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, and legal compliance. Proven track record of leading and motivating teams, fostering collaboration, and building a positive work culture. Ability to align HR strategies with business objectives and anticipate future workforce needs. Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of employees and senior management. Ability to analyze data and metrics to inform decision-making and identify areas for improvement. Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations. Proven ability to manage change effectively and implement new HR initiatives. Advanced computer skills with experience working with Internet, email, spreadsheets, databases and Microsoft Office Applications. Experience with ADP Workforce Now required. Ability to work with individuals of various socio-economic, ethnic, and racial populations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to display personal integrity, sound judgment and respect for the rights of others. Ability to comply with personal and business requirements and expectations as detailed in the Employee Handbook. Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
